University of Texas LonghornsThe Texas Longhorns are the sports teams that make up the University of Texas at Austin Athletic Department, and include varsity teams in eight men's sports and 10 women's sports.

The Texas Longhorns are named after the Longhorn cattle that were an integral part of the development of Texas. The sports program at UT propelled the university to be named as "America's Best Sports College" in 2002 by Sports Illustrated.

The Texas Longhorns, and most famously its football team, has earned awards and accolades from various media and institutions. In fact, the Texas Longhorns football team is probably one of the most storied teams in all of collegiate football history.

It is the second ranked NCAA Division I-A program in college football history for total wins, beating Notre Dame with win 831 on November 27, 2008. Only the University of Michigan has won more games and a greater percentage of games played than Texas.

In all, Longhorn sports teams have won 47 national championships.
